Tiaras are likely to conjure images of princesses and queens in your mind. These crowns have been worn by royalty for centuries to signify their power and status. Tiaras have been an essential component of royal attire from antiquity to the present. Although the terms “tiara” and “crown” are frequently used synonymously, there are some very distinct differences between the two. Let’s take a look at what makes a crown a crown and a tiara a tiara.

Men and women can both wear crowns. When worn, it completely encircles the head and has a circular base. Crowns are ornamented from all angles, including the front and the back. Bridal Tiaras are typically smaller, and crowns typically stand taller on the head. Usually, they are set with priceless precious metal, usually gold, and contain priceless precious gemstones. Tiaras are more common among regular people these days, but crowns are still frequently saved for royalty or eccentric celebrities. There is no set design for crowns other than the aforementioned characteristics. The crowns vary depending on the country and time, the fashion, the wearer, and the context in which they are used.

The differences between Tiara and Crown

Let’s take a look at what makes a crown a crown and a tiara a tiara.

  • A crown is circular (complete circle) while a tiara is semicircular and covers only half of the head.
  • A tiara is typically worn by women whereas crowns can be worn by both men and women.
  • A crown is a representation of power, authority, and royal status instead a Tiara can be worn by brides and beauty pageant winners.
  • Crowns are often more colorful and elaborate than tiaras.
